Top 20 Major Sports Cities In America For 2017

With its wealth of professional sports teams, a WalletHub study names Boston No. 1 major sports city in America for 2017. Bostonian rejoice, you’re #1!

Chicago ended up 5th among major sports cities (those with populations higher than 300,000) behind New York (NO. 2), Los Angeles (NO. 3), and Pittsburgh (NO. 4).

Philadelphia also made the list of major sports cities list, coming in at number 6, followed by Detroit, and Washington DC, respectively.

Financial data website compared 420 cities across the U.S. to build the lists of the best sports cities using 50 key metrics related to baseball, basketball, football, hockey, and soccer teams.

According to the study’s sport-by-sport rankings, Boston came in 5th for football; 2nd for basketball and hockey; 6th for baseball; and 9th for soccer.
