The 66-year old, retail mogul and CEO of Fast Retailing, Tadashi Yanai, is the Japan’s wealthiest individual with a net worth of US$21.1 billion. That’s up from $3.3 billion previously, according to the “JAPAN’s 50 RICH LIST” published by Forbes magazine.

Noticeably, out of the top 50 wealthiest individuals in Japan, only 2 are female, the overall collective wealth of Japan’s top 50 wealthiest is US$141 billion, up from US$130 billion a year ago.

And Japan’s richest person is…

Tadashi Yanai ranks No. 1 on the list, Masayoshi Son, the man behind Japan’s leading internet venture Softbank, at No. 2, saw his net worth fall to $13.9 billion, a $5.8 billion drop from a year ago.

Coming in 3rd place on the Japan’s richest person list is 69-year old Nobutada Saji and family with a net worth of US$10.9 billion, down US$300 million from last year.

Meanwhile, in the 4th spot is the Chairman and CEO of Japan’s biggest e-tailer, Rakuten, Hiroshi Mikitani with a net worth of US$10.5 billion, up 36% from a year ago.

The youngest person to make the list was 37-year-old founder of smartphone game maker Colopl Inc. Naruatsu Baba, ranked number 18 on Japan’s 50 Richest Person List.
