Jack Dorsey Succeeds Alyssa Henry as CEO of Square

Square

Alyssa Henry, who currently serves as the CEO of Square, a subsidiary of Block, is set to leave her position at the company next month. The announcement of her departure was made through a regulatory filing on Monday. Alyssa Henry has been part of the Block organization for more than nine years.

Her tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of Square will officially conclude on October 2. Square is responsible for providing payment solutions and falls under the broader umbrella of Block, which includes various other business units, notably the popular Cash App platform.

In the wake of Alyssa Henry’s departure, Jack Dorsey, who currently holds the titles of Block Head and Chairperson, will also assume the additional role of “Square Head,” as mentioned in the filing.

The specific reason behind Alyssa Henry’s decision to step down has not been immediately disclosed. However, a spokesperson from Block stated, “As CEO of Square, Alyssa Henry helped transform the business into a software-led technology company, guided the team during the uncertainty of global pandemic lockdowns, and expanded our breadth of services for small businesses around the world. Square is what it is today in large part because of Alyssa’s leadership, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

Alyssa Henry has held various roles at Square and has effectively led the company since 2015. Prior to her tenure at Square, she held positions at Amazon Web Services and Microsoft.
