What inspired you to pursue real estate as a career?
I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of home—not just as a physical space but as a foundation for people’s lives. Real estate felt like a natural extension of that interest. It’s incredibly fulfilling to help someone move into a place where they’ll create memories, start new chapters, or build a legacy. I also enjoy the dynamic nature of the industry. No two transactions are ever the same, which keeps me engaged and always learning.
What’s one of the most memorable experiences you’ve had working with a client?
I once worked with a young couple who were buying their first home after years of renting. They were expecting their first child, and their excitement was infectious. We faced some tough competition, but after a lot of strategizing and a few nail-biting negotiations, we secured the perfect home for them. A year later, they invited me to a barbecue and proudly showed me the nursery. Moments like that remind me why I love what I do.
How do you approach the challenge of a competitive housing market?
Preparation is everything. I make sure my clients are pre-approved for financing, fully understand market conditions, and are ready to make strong, confident offers. It’s also about creativity—whether it’s writing a personalized letter to the seller or uncovering hidden gems that other buyers might overlook. Staying calm and adaptable during the process is key.
What do you believe sets you apart as a Realtor?
I think it’s my focus on relationships. I don’t see my clients as just transactions; I see them as people with unique goals, challenges, and dreams. I take the time to really listen, provide honest advice, and make sure they feel supported every step of the way. I also pride myself on being transparent and reliable. My clients know they can trust me, which is a reputation I’ve worked hard to earn.
What trends do you see shaping the future of real estate in Ontario?
Ontario is seeing increased demand for multi-family housing and more interest in suburban and rural areas as remote work becomes the norm for many people. Sustainability is also becoming a priority, with buyers looking for energy-efficient homes and green building practices. Technology is another big driver, with virtual tours, smart home features, and online tools making the buying and selling process faster and more accessible.
How do you handle the emotional side of real estate transactions?
Buying or selling a home is often one of the most emotional decisions people make. I try to be a steady presence, offering reassurance and practical solutions during stressful moments. Empathy is crucial. Whether a client is navigating the excitement of a first home or the sadness of selling a family property, I make sure to meet them where they are emotionally and support them with care.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about investing in real estate?
Start small and focus on the numbers. Real estate investing can be incredibly rewarding, but it’s important to understand cash flow, expenses, and long-term value. Research is everything—know the neighborhood, the market trends, and the type of property that fits your goals. And always think long-term. A quick flip might work for some, but building steady wealth requires patience and a solid strategy.
What role does community play in your work?
Community is at the heart of everything I do. I’ve lived in Waterloo for 38 years, so I feel a deep connection to the area. Supporting local charities, attending events, and engaging with people in the community are things I genuinely enjoy. Being part of the community also helps me better understand what my clients value in a neighborhood, whether it’s proximity to schools, cultural diversity, or local amenities.
What challenges do first-time buyers face, and how do you help them?
First-time buyers often feel overwhelmed by the process—whether it’s saving for a down payment, navigating bidding wars, or understanding mortgage terms. My role is to simplify things and give them a roadmap. I guide them step-by-step, from getting pre-approved to making an offer. I also educate them about government incentives and programs designed to help first-time buyers, which can make a big difference.
How do you stay motivated and passionate about your work?
For me, the motivation comes from seeing the impact my work has on people’s lives. Every time I hand someone the keys to their new home, it’s a reminder of why I do this. I also love the variety in real estate—meeting new people, tackling different challenges, and staying ahead of market trends. It keeps things fresh and exciting. Plus, I’ve always believed in the importance of personal growth, so I’m constantly learning and finding ways to improve.
