Siemens AG Evaluates Future of Siemens Healthineers Stake

Siemens AG is currently reassessing its majority stake in Siemens Healthineers, the medical technology subsidiary, according to Chief Financial Officer Ralf Thomas in a recent interview.

Thomas explained that the synergies between Siemens AG and Siemens Healthineers, which specializes in MRI machines and laboratory systems, are insufficient to justify the approximately $46.9 billion tied up in the 75% equity stake. He indicated that Siemens is analyzing its economic opportunities in the healthcare sector to determine the strategic importance of Healthineers as an investment. The findings of this evaluation are expected to be disclosed during a capital markets day at the end of 2025.

Siemens initially spun off the Erlangen, Germany-based Healthineers in 2018, floating it on the stock exchange while retaining a majority stake. Until now, Siemens has consistently maintained its intention to keep its controlling interest.

However, Thomas suggested the possibility of selling around 5% of the stake in the near future to help finance the acquisition of U.S. software company Altair.

Regarding Siemens’ Mobility train division, which has faced repeated investor calls for a spin-off, Thomas expressed no intention to divest the business. He affirmed that the division remains a core part of Siemens and is performing well under its current ownership, dismissing any immediate plans for separation.

The review of Siemens Healthineers highlights Siemens AG’s strategic reassessment of its investments as it balances priorities across sectors.
