Donald Trump Picks Billionaire Stephen Feinberg and Elbridge Colby for Key Defense Roles
President-elect Donald Trump has made decisive moves by announcing his selections for two vital defense positions. Billionaire investor Stephen Feinberg will take on the role of Deputy Secretary of Defense. As the co-chief executive of Cerberus Capital Management LP, a private equity firm he established in 1992, Feinberg brings significant experience to the position, having also served on an intelligence advisory board during Trump’s first term from 2017 to 2021.
Feinberg will serve as the second-highest official at the Pentagon, collaborating closely with Trump’s chosen Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. Additionally, Trump has nominated Elbridge Colby for the crucial role of Undersecretary of Defense for Policy, making him the Pentagon’s No. 3 official. Colby, a strong advocate for a tough stance on China, previously held a senior position within the Pentagon during Trump’s first term. These strategic appointments are key components of Trump’s plan to reshape the Department of Defense effectively.
