Veteran Maritime Leader Takes Helm at ACBL
American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) has announced the appointment of Peter Coxon as its new Chief Executive Officer, a role he assumed with immediate effect.
With over four decades of experience in the maritime sector, Coxon steps into his new position bringing a wealth of knowledge as both an operator and a customer. His most recent role was as CEO of Rand Logistics, where he played a pivotal role in revitalizing the company and enhancing its performance after acquiring American Steamship Company.
Earlier this year, Coxon joined ACBL’s Board of Directors, contributing his extensive background in marine logistics, vessel construction, energy distribution, and renewable fuel sectors. His practical approach to leadership aligns with ACBL’s goals of delivering dependable and forward-thinking marine transportation services.
The Board’s Chairman, Al Stanley, expressed optimism about ACBL’s future under Coxon’s leadership, noting that the company has substantial opportunities ahead. He emphasized that the Board has full confidence in Coxon’s ability to steer ACBL as it embarks on the next phase of its development.
Stanley also acknowledged the contributions of Mike Ellis, who led ACBL for the past four years. He credited Ellis with guiding the company through a transformative period and laying a solid foundation for the years ahead, wishing him success in his future pursuits.
In addition to his current role, Coxon’s career includes leadership positions at SEACOR Holdings Inc., Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO), and Par Petroleum, now known as Par Pacific. His background is not limited to the private sector; he spent nine years as a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard, followed by four years in the Coast Guard Reserve.
Coxon’s academic achievements are equally notable, holding two master’s degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is also a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy.
