Forbes Lists Paycom, Led by CEO Chad Richison, Among the Best Employers for Tech Professionals
According to an Express Employment Professionals-Harris Poll survey, 33% of U.S. hiring managers expect employee turnover at their companies to rise in the coming year, which could cost an average of $36,295 annually.
Retaining talent has become a pressing concern for businesses today. They can’t rely solely on perks like ping-pong tables to attract job seekers; they must demonstrate a positive work environment that fosters skill development and learning.
Forbes, in partnership with Statista, recently released its America’s Best Employers for Tech Workers 2024 list, highlighting companies that meet the evolving demands of today’s tech workforce. These companies were identified in an independent survey from a vast sample of over 25,000 tech workers at companies employing at least 1,000 people within the U.S. Forbes defined tech workers as “professionals who identified themselves as having a job focused on “tech” or “IT functions,” including software development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data project management, technical support and more.”
The final score was based on two types of evaluations: personal (those given by employees themselves) and public (those given by friends and family members of employees or members of the public who work in the same industry), with a higher weight for personal evaluations.
Survey respondents evaluated their likelihood of recommending their current and previous employers and companies they knew through industry peers or friends. Current employees assessed their employers based on criteria, including salary, professional development opportunities, workplace flexibility, openness to employee ideas, the company’s reputation for being technologically progressive and more.
One company that secured a spot on this list of 200 organizations is Paycom, a leading provider of comprehensive, cloud-based human capital management software.
When it comes to technology, Paycom’s award-winning software is built, tested and delivered in-house, all in a single database. Paycom employees write the code, test the applications and support the solutions that redefine what’s possible in the industry for millions of workers.
Security and maintaining the trust of customers are priorities for the company. Both on- and off-site, they employ in-depth and industry-proven standards and technologies to protect and defend client data and privacy as a Tier IV data center, encrypting this data during transfer and storage, among numerous other precautions. They also continuously review and evaluate their security practices.
The organization is one of the few payroll processors to be ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 9001, ISO 22301, SOC 1 and SOC 2-certified.
Brad Smith, chief information officer at Paycom, said, “[Our] technology teams bring our tools to life and ensure clients have top-tier security and support. Most technologists dream of building software that impacts the lives of others. I’m proud that Paycom helps fulfill that dream every day, allowing our technology professionals to build and support software that simplifies life for employees all over the world and provides high client value through automation.”
Paycom’s impactful software includes:
GONE®: Paycom’s latest feature uses enhanced automation to streamline approvals and denials of time-off requests. This automation enhances staffing efficiency by minimizing the need for manual interactions between HR teams and the staff. GONE earned a 2024 Top HR Products award from Human Resource Executive magazine.
Beti®: This industry-first automated payroll solution allows employees to have direct control over their payroll by interacting directly with their payroll. Beti also handles time-consuming tasks such as calculating work hours, tracking expenses and handling pay changes. Last year, this product was a winner at the 13th Annual 2023 Globee® Business Awards and awarded the Top HR Product of 2021 by Human Resource Executive magazine.
Beyond the software, Paycom’s workplace is a major contributing factor to earning Forbes’ distinction. Its team receives generous benefits including:
- $1-per-pay-period individual health insurance, dental and vision insurance,
- a 401(k) plan with matching
- paid family leave and
- employee stock purchase plan (ESPP).
Paycom also provides professional development opportunities like leadership and role-based training programs. For example, the Development team holds an event two weekends a year to write code that builds Paycom’s products. The IT teams come together for a conference featuring team-building opportunities and special sessions from department leadership. This event offers them ongoing training, career insights and the opportunity to celebrate one another’s achievements.
Earlier this year, the company was recognized for fostering a great work environment for those who work in tech, including:
- Earning the 2024 Tech Cares award from TrustRadius, a buyer intelligence platform, for its above-and-beyond support for workers and communities
- A place on TIME’s World’s Best Companies of 2024 list and
- USA Today’s list of 2024 Top Workplaces for the fourth consecutive year.
Comparably, a leading workplace culture and corporate brand reputation platform with millions of employee ratings, also placed Paycom on its Best Leadership Teams and Best Career Growth lists.
Marci McCloskey, manager of IT governance, risk and compliance at Paycom, said, “Paycom has created an environment that allows intelligent, driven, collaborative people to soar. The scope and impact of the projects we work on is unlike anywhere else I have worked. Paycom brings the best people together and pushes us to the next level, making for an incredibly fulfilling career.”
