Leadership Transition at Warner Music Group as Max Lousada Steps Down
Warner Music Group (WMG) announced today that Max Lousada, CEO of Recorded Music, will step down at the end of September after leading the division for eight years. Lousada will remain as an adviser until January 31, but his role and the position of President of International will be discontinued moving forward.
Julie Greenwald, the current Chairman/CEO of Atlantic Records and Atlantic Music Group, will be promoted to chairman of Atlantic Music Group, reporting directly to WMG CEO Robert Kyncl. Elliot Grainge, founder of 10k Projects, will assume the role of CEO of Atlantic Music Group effective October 1, also reporting to Kyncl. Grainge joined Warner less than a year ago, transitioning 10K Projects from Universal to Warner in a joint venture last September. He is the son of Lucian Grainge, chairman/CEO of Universal Music Group.
Lousada reflected on his time at Warner, stating that over the past two decades, they had built a music company focused on championing original voices, honoring creativity, and igniting superstar careers. He expressed pride in developing a world-class team that brought in new labels, rebuilt iconic brands, expanded the global network, and pioneered new fan experiences. He mentioned that the music business is always evolving, and it was time for him to pursue new ventures. Lousada also committed to assisting the team through the transition and expressed confidence in their continued success in developing artists who move the world.
Robert Kyncl expressed gratitude for Lousada’s contributions over the last 20 years, acknowledging his role in creating a culture that prioritizes artistry, expanding global reach, and building a roster of incredible talent. Kyncl noted that Lousada would assist in ensuring a smooth transition.
