China and African Nations Forge Stronger Digital Partnerships
China and 26 African countries have committed to enhancing their partnerships and fostering innovation in the digital sector. This agreement was solidified during the Forum on China-Africa Digital Cooperation, hosted on July 29 by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in Beijing.
Senegal’s Minister of Telecommunications, Alioune Sall, expressed optimism about the anticipated advancements over the next three years. He highlighted that this digital cooperation between China and Africa is mutually beneficial and will bring advantages to both the African continent and China through the establishment of innovative infrastructures.
In recent years, China has entered into several digital cooperation agreements with African governments. The China Academy of ICTs reports that Chinese firms have been instrumental in improving network infrastructures across the continent, benefiting over 900 million people. These efforts include the deployment of undersea cables and the launch of data centers by Chinese companies.
The forum resulted in the issuance of a joint action plan, outlining the implementation of ten digital transformation demonstration projects and the training of at least 1,000 professionals in the digital sector. This initiative aims to enhance partnerships in digital policy, infrastructure, cutting-edge innovation, digital transformation, security, and talent development over the coming three years.
