Kempinski Hotels Brings Barbara Muckermann from Royal Caribbean to Serve as CEO
European luxury hotel company Kempinski Hotels has appointed Barbara Muckermann as its new CEO, effective immediately. Muckermann, who has extensive experience in the cruise industry, previously served as President and CEO of Silversea Cruises, a division of Royal Caribbean. Her 25-year career also includes leadership roles at MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line. She replaces Bernold Schroeder, who has been CEO since December 2020. Schroeder announced on LinkedIn that he is moving on to explore new career opportunities beyond Kempinski.
Kempinski board chairman René Nijhof described Muckermann as a leader who has consistently been at the forefront of luxury, highlighting her ability to enhance guest experiences while maximizing profitability for top travel brands. This combination of skills made her the ideal candidate to lead Kempinski Hotels. Muckermann is the first woman to hold the CEO position in Kempinski’s 127-year history.
Kempinski operates 82 luxury properties across 36 countries, primarily in Europe, the Middle East, and China. The company also announced plans to expand its portfolio with an additional 34 hotels and residences in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa in the coming years.
