Anastasia Nyrkovskaya is the New CEO and the First Female to Lead Fortune Magazine

Fortune, the esteemed business publication, has appointed Anastasia Nyrkovskaya as its next chief executive, marking a historic moment as she becomes the first woman to lead the renowned magazine. Nyrkovskaya succeeds Alan Murray, who announced his departure in October after nearly a decade with Fortune.

Nyrkovskaya has served as the chief financial officer and chief strategy officer since 2019. Under Nyrkovskaya’s leadership, Fortune has focused on diversifying revenue streams through innovative initiatives such as Fortune Well, covering health and wellness for business professionals and expanding digital subscriptions, advertising, conferences, and events globally. With a strategic emphasis on growth, Nyrkovskaya aims to enhance Fortune’s offerings, including new franchise lists like the Fortune 50 A.I. Innovators list.

Nyrkovskaya, 47, boasts a diverse professional background, having worked with notable organizations such as NBCUniversal, Birchbox, XpresSpa, and KPMG. Her appointment as CEO comes two and a half years after Fortune hired its first female editor-in-chief, Alyson Shontell.

In an interview, she expressed optimism about Fortune’s profitability and growth trajectory, citing the addition of over 130 positions within the past year across editorial and business departments, doubling the size of the newsroom since 2021. Looking ahead, Nyrkovskaya envisions further expansion, including an upcoming artificial-intelligence-based project utilizing Fortune’s archives. She reaffirmed Fortune’s commitment to supporting journalism and investing in its continued growth, underscoring the publication’s dedication to excellence in business reporting and executive insights.

Founded in 1929 by Henry Luce, Fortune has remained a cornerstone of business journalism, renowned for its Fortune 500 list, which annually ranks U.S. companies by revenue. Acquired by Thai businessman Chatchaval Jiaravanon in 2018, Fortune continues its legacy of influential reporting and executive communities.
