Optus Networks MD Lambo Kanagaratnam Steps Down
Following the departure of CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin in the aftermath of a significant outage, Lambo Kanagaratnam, Managing Director of Networks at Australian operator Optus, has resigned from the company, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.
The newspaper disclosed details from an internal memo circulated among Optus staff, revealing that Jorge Fernandes, Group Chief Technology Officer of Optus-parent Singtel, would assume Kanagaratnam’s responsibilities on an interim basis.
While the memo offered scant explanation for Kanagaratnam’s departure, it noted that he had “made the decision that the time is right for him to leave Optus.” The company expressed appreciation for Kanagaratnam’s contributions and nine years of service.
Kanagaratnam had previously appeared alongside then-CEO Bayer Rosmarin at a senate hearing to address an outage in November 2023, which severely disrupted the network, affecting consumers, hospitals, and government entities.
Shortly after the hearing, Bayer Rosmarin resigned from her position, citing the best interests of the operator. She was temporarily succeeded by CFO Michael Venter, who continues to serve as interim CEO.
