Amazon Web Services Names John Felton as its new CFO
John Felton, Amazon’s logistics head, is poised to assume the role of Chief Financial Officer at Amazon Web Services (AWS), succeeding current CFO Richard Puccio, who is planning to depart the company. No official reason has been provided for Richard Puccio’s departure from the CFO role, and Puccio has yet to comment on the matter.
While specific timelines for the transition have not been disclosed, this move reflects Felton’s extensive experience within Amazon since joining in 2004 as a senior financial analyst.
AWS has encountered slowing growth in the past year, with segment sales growing only 12 percent year-over-year in the quarter ending September 2023. This growth rate matched Q2’s figures but lagged behind Q1’s 16 percent growth and 2022 Q4’s 20 percent. The fourth-quarter results are anticipated to be shared on February 1.
Over the past 12 years, Felton has played a pivotal role in the operations team, reaching the position of Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations in July 2022. His tenure at Amazon has encompassed nine distinct roles, showcasing his versatility within the company. Before his Amazon tenure, Felton worked at General Engineering and pursued an MBA at Harvard Business School.
