Robert Kaminski Jr. is set to retire next year from his role as president and CEO of Mercantile Bank Corp, an institution based in Grand Rapids. His retirement is scheduled for June 1, 2024, marking the conclusion of a remarkable 40-year career in banking. While stepping down from his current position, Kaminski will continue to serve as a director on Mercantile’s corporate board of directors.
Raymond Reitsma, who currently holds the position of president of the bank, will take on the roles of president and CEO of the corporation following Kaminski’s retirement. Reitsma is also currently the corporation’s executive vice president and chief operating officer.
As of September 30, Mercantile Bank operates 45 offices across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, with $5.25 billion in total assets and $3.90 billion in total deposits.
Michael Price, the board chairman, expressed the significance of Kaminski’s contributions, highlighting his consistent leadership as CEO. Price added that Kaminski’s wisdom and insight will still be retained as he continues to serve as a director of the company. Kaminski had succeeded Price as corporate president and CEO in 2017.
Kaminski, reflecting on the transition, emphasized that it was the result of years of thoughtful consideration about the company’s future leadership. He expressed complete confidence that under Reitsma’s leadership, Mercantile will continue to be a trusted partner for clients and communities while adding value for shareholders.
Raymond Reitsma’s journey with Mercantile Bank spans two decades, beginning as a commercial loan manager and subsequently taking on roles such as senior lender, west regional president, president, executive vice president, and chief operating officer.
