Geoffrey Belsher to be the new President and CEO for Barclays Canada
Barclays Plc is set to announce Geoffrey Belsher as its new President and CEO for Canada, a seasoned Canadian investment banker. Belsher, with a history of senior positions at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Lehman Brothers in Canada, is commencing his new role on Monday, as reported by Bloomberg.
This appointment comes in the wake of several key departures, including Bruce Rothney, the former CEO of Barclays Canada, who left to lead Jefferies Financial Group’s Canadian division. Several others, including financial services analyst John Aiken, have also left to join Jefferies.
Geoffrey Belsher will be based in Toronto and will report to Richard Haworth, Barclays’ Managing Director for the Americas, as well as the co-heads of investment banking, Cathal Deasy and Taylor Wright.
Barclays has maintained a presence in Canada for almost a century and views it as a crucial market for its ambitious growth plans in the Americas, as stated by Haworth.
