Nielsen Appoints Karthik Rao in the role of CEO
Nielsen, a renowned global leader in audience measurement, data, and analytics, has officially announced the appointment of Karthik Rao as CEO, effective immediately. David Kenny, who has held the CEO position since 2018, will transition to the role of Executive Chairman.
Nielsen is operating in over 55 countries worldwide and is a global leader in audience measurement, data, and analytics, shaping the world’s media and content landscape. By understanding people and their behaviors across all channels and platforms, Nielsen empowers its clients with independent and actionable intelligence, enabling them to connect and engage with their audiences.
Nielsen is supported by Elliott Investment Management L.P. (“Elliott”) and Brookfield Business Partners L.P., along with institutional partners collectively referred to as “Brookfield.”
Since early 2023, Rao has held the position of CEO of Nielsen’s Audience Measurement business, where he has been responsible for driving and evolving Nielsen’s audience measurement strategies in the face of unprecedented disruptions and transitions. His primary focus has been on establishing a currency for media distribution and consumption across all platforms globally.
Before his role as CEO of the audience measurement business, Rao served as Nielsen’s Chief Operating Officer. Prior to that, he led Nielsen Portfolio as CEO, overseeing a fully independent division that included Nielsen Entertainment, Nielsen Gracenote, Nielsen Brandbank, and the Nielsen Telecom businesses across all global markets.
