The new CFO of Covestro is Christian Baier
The Covestro Supervisory Board has unanimously selected Christian Baier as the incoming Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He will assume the role from Dr. Thomas Toepfer on October 1, 2023. Technology Officer to encompass the position of Labor Director.
As of August 31, 2023, Dr. Toepfer will step down from his position, and Covestro’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Markus Steilemann, will temporarily undertake the CFO role for the month of September. Additionally, starting September 1, 2023, Dr. Thorsten Dreier will extend his responsibilities as Chief Technology Officer.
The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Covestro, Dr. Richard Pott, expressed enthusiasm about Christian Baier’s appointment, highlighting Baier’s extensive experience in capital markets and his anticipated role in shaping Covestro’s transformation towards a circular economy as well as implementing the Sustainable Future strategy. Pott also welcomed Dr. Thorsten Dreier’s dual role, emphasizing his familiarity with the company and his capacity to influence its future alongside employees as the new Labor Director.
Christian Baier shared his anticipation for contributing to Covestro’s growth and transformation in collaboration with employees and the Board of Management.
Hailing from Freiburg/Breisgau, Germany, Baier brings significant experience to his new role. He has been a member of METRO AG’s Management Board, serving as Chief Financial Officer since 2016. This followed a series of executive roles at the international wholesaler from 2011. His professional background also encompasses positions at Permira, a global investment firm, from 2006 to 2011.
