What To See In Rhodes The Popular Greek Destinagtion

Rhodes has been the apple of discord for centuries, mainly due to its privileged geographical position. It is no coincidence that it has always been described as”the bridge between East and West.” From the conquest of Romans to the conquest of Arabs, to the long period of the Knights Templar, and from the hands of the Ottomans to the hands of the Italians until the regaining of its independence only in 1948, the island has a long history. Today we will see what the island offers besides its beautiful beaches.

  1. Rhodes-Old Town

Rhodes is not just its beaches. Let us wander into the heart of the island, and of course, we mean the Old Town of Rhodes. Stone-built houses, cobbled streets, and imposing chivalric and Oriental buildings frame an elegant World Cultural Heritage. Walk freely, admire the veil of years that adorned it, and listen to the clatter of horses proudly descending the street of Knights.
Feel the romantic mood that lingers in its picturesqueness, and when the night falls, do not forget to stop for a drink, a cocktail, or even food in its famous bars and restaurants.

  2. Mandraki

Moving away from the medieval town by walking along the beautiful beach, you can reach Mandraki. In front of the old small port of Mandraki, there are the emblems of Rhodes, the elk, and the DOE.

  3. Monte Smith or St. Stephen’s Hill

Monte Smith’s Hill or St. Stephen’s Hill is the best place to enjoy the sunset. In the upper Acropolis of ancient Rhodes, with the sea in front and the Temple of Apollo behind you, the spectacle of the West is enchanting.

  4. Kallithea Springs

Take the car and go for one more tour. We arrive at the springs of Kallithea, where the “Tsillonero,” as the locals called it, is gushing a red, chloro-sodium thermal water. Today the springs do not function, but the monumental architecture and the magnificence of the place, in combination with nature, create a dreamy environment for the visitor.

  5. Seven Sources

The next destination is Seven Sources. They got their name from the number of springs that gush there. The waters from the springs end in a small lake. You must cross a narrow arcade of 186 meters to reach the lake. On this route, you may also meet the “gizani,” a rare fish species living in the waters.
The image you see after you arrive will enchant you. Plane trees, pines all around, and a small waterfall adorning the lake’s center are enough to create an idyllic beauty. If you have not believed in heaven, this is your chance to change your mind.

  6. Butterfly Valley

Our nature tour continues in the Valley of the Butterflies. A magnificent habitat of natural beauty is the refuge of a vast number of butterflies, which like the wallpaper of various colors, shapes, and sizes, cover and adorn the landscape from one side to the other.

  7. Panagia Tsambika and Monolithos Castle

At the next turn of our road trip, we are at the monastery of the Patroness of Rhodes, ”Panagia Tsampika.” Despite the fatigue of the three hundred steps one has to climb to be in the monastery, the stunning view and the devotion to the top are important rewards.

  8. Monolithos

Rhodes continues to amaze us with the view it can offer, so we go for a visit from the castle of Monolithos. It was built on a hill of rocks rising above a valley. From the castle, one can see the islands of Halki, Alimia, and the coast of Asia Minor.

  9. Lindos: the Lady of Rhodes

Last but not least, Lindos, the ”Lady of Rhodes,” is a traditional settlement built on the ruins of the Old Town of Lindos. This is at the foot of an impressive rock and is one of the three ancient cities; the others are Ialyssos and Kamiros. It has been characterized as the “Cycladic of the Dodecanese” and not unjustly. White Houses, labyrinthine alleys, and the embrace of the endless blue create its unique image.
Arriving, you can visit the Acropolis of Lindos, which hosts the most important monument there, the Temple of Athena Lindia. The temple is built on the highest level of the Rock, with stunning views of the other monuments of the Acropolis and the surrounding bays. According to archaeologists, there was a statue of the goddess, as in the Parthenon of Athens, which had been destroyed. To climb the Acropolis, you can enjoy the route on foot or take one of the sweet donkeys near the square.
