Learning ourselves in 4 simple steps

''Don't limit yourself'' written under a torn piece of paper

Knowing who we are is more than vital. To do that we need some ”weapons” that will allow us to use them in order to explain the reality we receive and set the boundaries of our understanding. Today I will talk about the 4 philosophies that accompany human perception and their valuable lessons.

  1. Caring about people from day 1
Zodiac signs have been in fashion forever. The man’s need to explain and categorize people has led to all kinds of assumptions. You will be surprised to hear that even Carl Yung who was a renowned scientist did not exactly believe in these but he had a different way to put it. He said: ”We are born at a given moment, in a given place, and like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season in which we are born.” Astrology may not be accurate but the idea of looking at the surroundings that accompanied a human’s birth is not at all out of the blue. Apart from these factors we also take into consideration other parameters. The family and general background at the moment, for example. The first years of a person’s life are very critical for its evolution and this is why we want to reassure these will be as ideal as possible.

  2. Fate and our ability to control it
According to psychiatrists, there is no such thing as fate. Based on the things we described before this may not sound right. On the contrary, what scientists suggest is that everything comes with an explanation. At this point, they do not care about seasons and place of birth but about our unconscious mind. When something that we have inside is unknown to us, it appears to us as fate. In other words, when our conscious does not communicate with the subconscious we come across situations that do not seem to have any reasonable explanation. As humans we have decided to call these situations ”fate.” Fate is nothing else but our inability to understand everything or at least bring it up on the surface and the conscious mind process them.

  3. We learn from experience and not lectures
Most of you have probably heard that children learn from what grown-ups are and not from their talk. Regardless of how many lectures you throw on a kid regarding how they should be, the thing that will affect them the most, is how you are in reality. People learn from experience and from imitation of what others do. Imitation is a type of experience. The reason we use it is that it is simple. During this process, we follow the same path that someone else has walked before us. This limits the surprises that come up and allows us to feel safe. Seeing that someone else has made it using this method we take the courage to believe we will make it too. We always know that there are other ways to follow. However, our minds understand that this is the quickest way to success and no valuable time has to be spent to explore things that have already been discovered.

  4. Everything can be resolved
Any problem that appears in life can be resolved; if we could not find a solution to the problem we face, life would not have brought it to us. This is actually, a very optimistic point of view since it allows us to believe that we can solve all of our problems. In addition, it kind of suggests that the more problems appear the more qualified, skilled, or wise we get. Finally, it is as if we imply that the reason these problems come up is that we are capable enough to solve them. To put it simply, we are strong enough to handle challenging situations and this is why sometimes we attract them. All these are interpretations of our initial statement that every problem that comes up can be resolved. The important thing is to focus on this belief without having to make conclusions about ourselves. No matter what our case is, the idea is not to judge ourselves even if that is to say that we are strong. We have nothing to prove and we can delightfully enjoy keeping in mind that there is no room to fear the problems.
