Top Taiwanese Universities You Should Check Out

One of the most popular Asian destinations for students, Taiwan is a perfect recipe for a quality educational experience coupled with an engaging culture and lifestyle. It fares well on a range of important parameters, from infrastructural facilities to friendly lifestyle, and this makes it an easy pick for international students. Though it is largely popular among those who are interested in science and technology, students with all kinds of academic interests come here and share a generally positive outlook about the country.

Much of the credit goes to the standards maintained by the Taiwanese universities, which have, from time and again, charted high on regional and international rankings. They have outperformed many of their long-established counterparts in neighbouring countries and produced some of the most employable lots in the world. Anyone who is interested in Taiwan for educational purposes or otherwise should definitely apprise themselves of the fantastic universities here.

Here are 5 of the top Taiwanese universities to know.

  1. National Taiwan University
    Let us begin with the most prestigious university in the country: National Taiwan University was founded way back in the year 1928 by the Colonial Japanese and is presently among the top universities in Asia. It comprises eleven colleges each catering to a range of courses. Degree programmes include those in Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, Law, Public Health, Medicine, Life Science, and Engineering. It is home to the International Chinese Language Program (ICLP) which Stanford University had established. Being a venerated university, it has an illustrious alumni network consisting of the incumbent President of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-Wen; Nobel Laureate, Yuan T. Lee, and the founder of Quanta Computer, Barry Lam.
  2. Taipei Medical University
    The irreplaceable value of Taipei Medical University in the country is undisputed. Known for its world-class healthcare facilities, it offers an equally praiseworthy academic and practical education to students through eleven colleges. Its colleges include those of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nutrition, General Education, Humanity and Social Sciences, and Medical Science and Technology. In addition, there are three hospitals associated with the university. The university has performed exceptionally well in terms of teacher-student ratio and financial investment in education. So far as research activities are concerned, it is best known for researching biomedical materials and brain injury among others.
  3.  National Tsing Hua University
    Next up on the list is a very well-respected research university, National Tsing Hua University.  Its academic organization comprises ten colleges which operate as many as 26 departments and 28 graduate institutes. A notable addition to its research is the College of Nuclear Science that researches the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Its colleges include those of Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Life Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences. To further research activities, there are several research centres such as the IC Design Tech Centre, Centre for Energy and Environmental Research, Advanced Packaging Research Centre, and Instrument Centre. Its alumni include Xia Nai, a famous archaeologist and Chen Ning Yang, a Nobel Laureate.
  4. National Yang-ming University
    Best known for research activities in the field of Medicine, Biotechnology and Life Sciences, National Yang-ming University is a prestigious institution that was established as National Yang-ming College of Medicine in the year 1975. It operates 7 departments and 29 institutes, all of which have been covered under 6 schools. These schools include those of Humanities, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Dentistry, and Biomedical Science. The University, along with the National Chengchi University and Taipei City Hospital System, offers systematic and high-class healthcare services.
  5. China Medical University
    The final entrant on the list is China Medical University. Located in Taichung, it is a private medical university that was founded in the year 1958. It conducts its academic programmes from two campuses located in Beigang and Taichung and has seven colleges offering courses in myriad fields. To boost the academic experience, it has entered into several international partnerships; these partnerships or collaborations include those with Florida Atlantic University, University of Oradea, and University of Mississippi Medical Centre. Also, there are a number of research centres to know such as the Centre for Continuing Education, Biostatistics Centre, Chinese Herb Experimental Farm, and Cancer Research Centre.
