CEO Spotlight: How CEO Jhon-Jhon Ventura Turned his Small Business Into an International Brand
The start of Jhon-Jhon Ventura’s life was anything but easy. But, like something out of a Hollywood movie, he turned what seemed like a hopeless situation into an incredibly successful business and life.
Born into a difficult family situation in Los Angeles, California, Jhon-Jhon spent much of his early life in the Philippines, where he was cared for by his grandmother. In fact, it was she who gave him his name, “Jhon-Jhon” as an infant.
At 4 years of age, he moved back to Los Angeles to live with his mother. His childhood was tumultuous, and eventually, his family moved across the country to New Jersey. It was there he would graduate from high school, enroll in community college, and eventually meet his soon-to-be ex-wife.
Jhon-Jhon’s marriage would reflect similar difficulties to those of his childhood. However, she would successfully inspire him to accomplish more than he realized he could by attending and graduating from Rutgers University with two degrees.
After rising to the top ranks as a pharmaceutical representative, Jhon-Jhon experienced his first taste of financial success. With a market in recession, however, he quickly lost his financial standing and found himself working as a janitor and bartending to get by.
To make matters worse, it was at this time his grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. But with this news, an idea would take root and be the foundation of his new small business.
When taking his grandmother to one of her chemotherapy radiation treatments, Jhon-Jhon noticed the hospital’s charity event called “Make Up for a Day.” The charity provided makeup and cosmetic applications to patients.
So, he thought to himself, “Why just for a day? Why not every day?” So, the idea to start a revolutionary business to help those suffering from serious illness feel beautiful and confident in their skin was born.
“I wanted them to feel pretty and beautiful while going through their chemotherapy radiation treatments, and to walk through my facility and feel welcome and loved,” says Jhon-Jhon.
Passionate about turning his idea into a new reality, he got to work learning the skills he needed to execute his vision.
He quickly became a Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professional (CPCP) and a Trained Member with The Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals (SPCP) and began working out of a local hospital.
Not long after, he took his business out of the hospital environment and into his own space. Jhon-Jhon transformed his permanent cosmetics business into a thriving Institute.
Today, the Institute not only provides life-changing cosmetic procedures for patients but also offers incredible opportunities for tens of thousands of students who share Jhon-Jhon’s dream of changing the lives of patients throughout the world. His Institute provides education for eyelash extensions, ultimate lash lifts, definition brows, vitiligo & color camouflage, areola & scar camouflage, and bleach bright teeth whitening services.
The Jhon-Jhon Institute has won multiple awards, is a physician preferred choice and offers certified, licensed, and insured services. It is also now one of the largest international permanent makeup and cosmetic service institutes in the industry.
During this pandemic, the Institute continues to provide services for individuals who have undergone or continue to undergo changes to their appearance due to medical illnesses, doing so with strict adherence to the CDC guidelines.
What started as a life full of obstacles, heartbreaks, and devastating loss has now turned into existence full of hope, passion, and service through the Jhon-Jhon Institute.
Jhon-Jhon and his husband, Carlos Mejias, the institute’s lead instructor, continue to expand their services and hope to spread Jhon-Jhon’s grandmother’s legacy of hope, joy, and passion.
