Nancy Pelosi, Donald Trump, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have been named as three of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the World, 2019. For the first time ever – 48 of the artists, icons, leaders, pioneers, and titans who made the list are women, last year, 45 women made the list. The issue includes big names like pop star Taylor Swift, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former first lady Michelle Obama and more.
The leaders are joined by a list of other artists, icons, leaders, pioneers, and titans, including New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Mitch McConnell, and Brett Kavanaugh. Each year, the honorees have an article written about them in the magazine by a fellow celebrity and this year, Hillary Clinton wrote Nancy Pelosi‘s Time 100 piece.
Other names on the list include primatologist and conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall; Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; the US attorney general, William Barr; Pope Francis, Xi Jinping, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got a special mention from Elizabeth Warren, who wrote: “[Alexandria] Her commitment to putting power in the hands of the people is forged in fire.
She continued: “[Alexandria] Coming from a family in crisis and graduating from school with a mountain of debt, she fought back against a rigged system and emerged as a fearless leader in a movement committed to demonstrating what an economy, a planet and a government that works for everyone should look like.”
