The Top 50 American Disrupters Shaping Our World: Elon Musk Is The Disruption King
Packed with Silicon Valley luminarie, Tesla boss Elon Musk was named No. 1 on Vanity Fair’s annual “New Establishment” ranking of the top 50 Disrupters, leaping ahead of Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at number two. The new chief disrupter: Elon Musk, co-founder and chief executive officer of Tesla Motors.
Interestingly, tech-titans dominate the ‘Disrupters’, others in the top 5 include: Apple’s Tim Cook and British design guru Jonathan Ive (No. 3); Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos (No. 4); and Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg at number five.
The No. 6 spot went to Netflix’s chief executive Reed Hastings and head of content Ted Sarandos, venture capitalists Mark Andreessen and Ben Horowitz clocked in this year at No. 7.
Perhaps more interesting, the first of only 5 women in a list of 50 ‘Disrupters’ is everyone’s favorite Facebook exec, Sheryl Sandberg at No. 12. She is joined by Yahoo chief Marissa Mayer at 15, along with Susan Wojcicki at 19, Re/code Co-Executive Editor Kara Swisher (No. 40), and Nasty Gal CEO Sophia Amoruso at 48.
The New Establishment 2014 was broken into two lists this year: “The Disrupters” and “The Powers That Be” — feels are shaping our world.
