Just a Publicity stunt at 2011 BET Awards- Patti LaBelle, Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Jaden and Willow Smith
At the 2011 BET Awards hosted by Kevin Hart, A tribute to Patti LaBelle was the main point of the show, Chris Brown, Beyoncé, and Kelly Rowland also delivered strong performances. Other performers were Shirley Ceaser and Marsha Ambrosius, the latter of whom performed LaBelle’s If Only You Knew.
Gladys Knight opened the tribute to Lifetime Achievement Award winner Patti LaBelle. After a video montage recapping her life and career, Cee Lo Green cracked LaBelle up as he performed “Somebody Loves You Baby” clad in a LaBelle-esque outfit and a wig he spritzed with a can of hairspray.
Compared to Green, Ambrosius was sedate and ineffectual, but Shirley Caesar made up for the momentary lull with the emotional intensity of her version of “You Are My Friend”. LaBelle embraced Knight as she accepted the award, and performed “Love, Need and Want You” and “Lady Marmalade” after her speech.
The pop diva, Beyonce delivered a career defining set at Glastonbury on Sunday night.
