Vanguard Leadership Transition and Strategic Appointments

Vanguard, a prominent investment management firm, has announced significant changes in its leadership structure, marking the retirement of Tim Buckley from his roles as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Buckley, renowned for his dynamic leadership and over three decades of service at Vanguard, will step down by the end of 2024.

The Board of Directors at Vanguard has commenced a thorough process to select a successor, considering both internal talents and external candidates. In a parallel development, Greg Davis, currently serving as the Chief Investment Officer, has been appointed as the President of the firm with immediate effect.

In his new dual role as President and Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Davis will assume responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the firm’s investment management and retirement business. With his extensive experience spanning 24 years at Vanguard, Mr. Davis is poised to continue Vanguard’s legacy of excellence in investment management and client service.

During his tenure at Vanguard, Mr. Buckley has left an indelible mark, spearheading numerous innovations and achievements across various senior positions. His journey began in 1991 as the research assistant to Vanguard’s founder, John Bogle, where he imbibed the foundational principles of the company. Progressing through different leadership roles, Mr. Buckley notably expanded Vanguard’s client base to over 50 million investors globally, alongside an impressive growth in assets under management to $9 trillion.

Under Mr. Buckley’s stewardship, Vanguard has witnessed remarkable growth and success across its business lines, marked by outstanding investment performance and a commitment to investor satisfaction. His leadership navigated Vanguard through the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring consistent business operations and client satisfaction.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Davis served as the global head of Vanguard Investment Management Group, where he managed trillions of dollars in assets across various asset classes. His leadership extends beyond Vanguard, as he actively participates in advisory committees for notable institutions such as the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

With these strategic transitions, Vanguard reaffirms its commitment to delivering value to its investors and sustaining its position as a leader in the investment management industry.
