Ørsted’s Senior Executive Joins GE Vernova in Key Commercial Role

Ørsted’s Group Executive Vice President and Chief Executive for the Americas is set to move into a new position as Global Chief Commercial Officer for Wind at GE Vernova, a major player in wind turbine manufacturing. Hardy is expected to officially step down from his role at Ørsted on November 30, 2024.

In a recent statement, Mr. Hardy expressed his enthusiasm about joining the company, highlighting GE Vernova’s status as a leading U.S. corporation and a global pioneer in wind energy technology. He emphasized the crucial role wind energy plays in the current and future energy landscape.

Reflecting on his career, Hardy mentioned that after his departure from the U.S. Navy in 1998, he spent over a decade working with GE. He later accumulated another ten years of experience with two other wind turbine manufacturers, both in the U.S. and internationally.

Hardy conveyed his eagerness to contribute his extensive background to support Scott Strazik and Vic Abate in advancing GE Vernova’s wind energy segment. He noted his anticipation to foster connections with key global wind clients, aiming to assist them in driving their projects forward and achieving their business targets. Hardy also looked forward to collaborating with a new team to lead efforts in global electrification and decarbonization.

During his tenure at Ørsted, Hardy held prominent positions in the U.S. offshore sector, overseeing the company’s U.S. operations for two years. His leadership spanned offshore and onshore wind, solar energy, battery storage, and green fuel initiatives. Under his guidance, Ørsted completed the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the U.S., South Fork Wind, and initiated construction on two additional offshore projects, Revolution Wind and Sunrise Wind. These three ventures will collectively generate 1.8 GW of power.

Hardy noted that Ørsted focused on supporting local communities during this period, establishing supply chains from New York and New England to Texas and Louisiana, leading to the creation of thousands of jobs. He highlighted the company’s investments in infrastructure, such as ports and vessels, and their partnerships with labor groups to develop training programs and employ union workers.
