FISU Executive Committee Prepares for Torino 2025 World University Games

The Executive Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) convened in Torino on January 11 and 12, 2025, just ahead of the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games Opening Ceremony, scheduled for January 13.

Over the course of two days, the committee engaged in a range of activities, including discussions, presentations, updates, and working group sessions. The gathering marked a dynamic start to the participants’ stay in the Piemonte region, setting the stage for the highly anticipated Games.

FISU’s newly appointed Secretary General and CEO, Matthias Remund, who assumed the role on December 1, 2024, wasted no time diving into his responsibilities. Prior to the official commencement of the Games, he met with various university sports representatives and other stakeholders to build connections and assess preparations.

A former student-athlete who competed in cross-country skiing at the World University Games, Remund managed to revisit his roots by testing the skiing course in Pragelato, describing it as an exhilarating experience.

For the formal proceedings on January 11 and 12, Remund shifted focus to his first-ever Executive Committee Meeting, where he was warmly welcomed by the committee members. The sessions began with reports from the Torino 2025 organizing committee and the FISU Winter Department, followed by working group discussions on specific topics.

On the second day, the committee continued its work after a traditional Italian coffee and an official group photo. Reports were presented by FISU’s Summer Department and on the upcoming Rhine-Ruhr 2025 and Chungcheong 2027 World University Games, giving attendees a glimpse into the future of university sports and fostering excitement for the events ahead.

FISU President Leonz Eder reflected on the meeting’s success, noting the productive exchanges and the diverse feedback shared by members. He emphasized that fostering open dialogue is key to making informed decisions for the organization and the advancement of university sports.

Matthias Remund expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the two-day meeting, stressing the importance of transparency and communication in FISU’s operations. He voiced enthusiasm about collaborating closely with the committee and looked forward to celebrating the Torino 2025 Games.

The Torino 2025 FISU World University Games, running from January 13 to 23, promises to showcase exceptional athletic talent and the spirit of international university sports.
