Gabon Oil Chief to Spotlight Energy Strategies at Congo Forum

Marcellin Simba Ngabi, CEO of Gabon Oil Company (GOC), has been confirmed as a featured speaker at the Congo Energy & Investment Forum (CEIF), scheduled for March 25-26, 2025, in Brazzaville. As the head of Gabon’s national oil enterprise, Ngabi is expected to outline the country’s initiatives to attract investment in its oil and gas sector. His presentation will highlight GOC’s strategies to boost production to 220,000 barrels per day (bpd) and unlock value from underutilized fields.

Ngabi is also set to discuss GOC’s recent milestones, including the 2023 acquisition of Assala Energy’s assets. This acquisition enhanced GOC’s portfolio with seven onshore licenses, a pipeline network, and the Gamba export terminal, bolstering Gabon’s production and export capabilities. These achievements underscore the significant role of national oil companies in advancing Africa’s energy agenda.

The inaugural Congo Energy & Investment Forum will convene international investors and local stakeholders to explore opportunities in energy and infrastructure across the region. Key topics will include updates on gas-to-power projects and ongoing infrastructure developments.

Gabon’s active involvement in CEIF reflects the growing energy collaboration and integration in Central Africa. Shared infrastructure and aligned strategies between the Republic of Congo and Gabon present opportunities for cross-border projects and resource optimization, fostering mutual growth. The forum will serve as a platform to strengthen partnerships and discuss cooperative efforts to enhance regional energy security and development.

Ngabi is also expected to shed light on Gabon’s upstream advancements, such as BW Energy’s rapid development of the Hibiscus South satellite prospect, which added 5,000-6,000 bpd just five months after its discovery. Additionally, Gabon’s Gas Master Plan is making strides in natural gas monetization, with notable projects like Perenco’s $1 billion Cap Lopez LNG terminal, set to launch in 2026, and the operational Batanga LPG plant, which is reducing flaring while expanding downstream capacities.

James Chester, CEO of Energy Capital & Power, emphasized the significance of GOC’s participation, noting that it reflects the importance of collaboration and innovation in Africa’s energy landscape. Chester highlighted that national oil companies such as GOC are instrumental in transforming the continent’s energy value chain and positioning Africa as a key global energy player. He added that the inclusion of regional participants like Gabon underscores the interconnected nature of Central Africa’s energy sector and the collective drive toward unified progress.
