eSIM Revolution: An Interview with Dmitri Verbovski, Yesim’s Founder

Dmitri Verbovski

Dmitri Verbovski is an expert telecom entrepreneur who is committed to transforming cross-border communication. As the founder and CEO of Yesim, Dmitri developed the company with a clear vision: to reduce the complexity and high expenses of international connectivity.

And he isn’t just solving the connectivity crisis—he’s revolutionizing how people stay connected. Under his leadership, Yesim has formed strategic alliances with key global telecom carriers, resulting in a powerful network that serves millions of travelers across around 200 countries and regions.  In this article, in his own words, he shares his journey, the challenges he has encountered, and the vision that drives him forward as the founder of Yesim.

Turning Frustration into Innovation

Connectivity is essential for global entrepreneurs where inconsistent mobile connection can cost you a multi-million dollar deal. The idea for Yesim came from my own frustrations as a traveler. Roaming charges, unreliable SIM cards, and the hassle of finding connectivity abroad made me think: “Why does staying connected have to be so complicated?”

When I discovered eSIM technology, it was like a light bulb moment. It was clear this could revolutionize how people access mobile networks, making it simple, instant, and eco-friendly. My goal with Yesim was to take this cutting-edge technology and turn it into a solution anyone could use effortlessly — whether for travel, work, or staying connected with loved ones globally.

Demystifying eSIM Technology

For those unfamiliar, an eSIM—short for embedded SIM—is a digital alternative to traditional physical SIM cards. It allows activating and managing multiple cellular plans directly on a single device.  One of the challenges we’ve faced at Yesim is educating people about eSIM technology. A common misconception is that it’s only for tech-savvy users or that their phone might not support it. The truth is, eSIM is incredibly user-friendly and compatible with most modern smartphones.

Another fear people often have is losing their physical SIM card or number. That’s not the case at all. I often explain that eSIM works alongside their physical SIM—they can switch between them easily without removing anything. It’s like having two SIM cards in one phone but without the hassle of physically swapping them. Our goal at Yesim is to make this technology accessible and easy to understand for everyone.

How Yesim Helps People Stay Connected Globally

With eSIM, my own travel experience has been completely changed. I don’t have to search for local providers when I get somewhere or struggle with actual SIM cards at the airport. I can quickly switch between networks right from my phone, ensuring constant connectivity wherever I am.

Avoiding expensive roaming fees, which can quickly drive up trip costs, is one of its most notable advantages. Yesim has affordable prices, especially in places where roaming prices are significant. For example, in countries like Japan, Yesim offers local-rate plans priced at just $20.35 per 10 days. In comparison, traditional roaming services from major providers can charge up to $12 per day, which would total $120 for a similar 10-day trip—making Yesim up to almost six times more affordable.

Yesim’s plans are also data-only, meaning you don’t spend money on traditional voice minutes or SMS. This is ideal for those who use VoIP apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, or Skype for calls and messaging. This approach keeps costs low while still allowing users to stay connected.

Expanding Yesim’s Reach

Yesim has grown rapidly since its inception, but we’re only just getting started. We plan to expand our network coverage to include even more countries, ensuring that wherever you go, you can stay connected. We’re also exploring features like offering local phone numbers and voice call support, which would further enhance the travel experience.

Additionally, we want to integrate with popular travel apps and services to create a seamless ecosystem for travelers.

But that’s not all — we’re also working on a revolutionary product that will redefine mobile connectivity, competing not just with eSIM services but with traditional mobile operators.

Yesim always strives to stay one step ahead. The ultimate goal is to make Yesim a one-stop solution for global connectivity, tailored to every user’s needs.

Moments That Define Our Purpose

While growth and innovation drive us, it’s the stories from our users that remind me why Yesim exists. One of the most rewarding moments was hearing from a user who had been stranded in a foreign country due to an emergency. They told us that Yesim allowed them to quickly get online, contact their family, and navigate to safety.

Knowing that our service made a tangible difference in someone’s life was incredibly humbling. It reminded me why we started Yesim in the first place: to make connectivity simple, reliable, and available when it’s needed most.

Lessons from My Entrepreneurial Journey

As I reflect on my entrepreneurial journey, I’ve learned some things that I think can be helpful for any company owner trying to overcome obstacles in the real world:

  • Focus on solving a problem you deeply understand.
  • Start small but think big—don’t try to solve everything at once, but have a clear vision of where you’re headed.
  • Listen closely to your users; they will guide you toward the best version of your product.
  • Stay adaptable. Challenges like educating users about new technology or entering new markets require constant learning and flexibility.
  • Finally, surround yourself with a passionate team that shares your vision. Success is never a solo journey; it’s about the people who believe in your mission.
