Emily Turner to Become the New CEO of HSBC Innovation Banking UK
HSBC Innovation Banking UK has announced the appointment of Emily Turner, a former Citi executive, as its new CEO. She will take on the role starting February 2025. Turner will succeed Erin Platts, who is set to step down in December to assume the CEO position at Octopus Ventures, a move that was revealed earlier in July. Despite her departure, Platts will continue to work with HSBC as a special advisor.
Platts previously served as CEO of Silicon Valley Bank UK for 19 years until HSBC acquired the bank for about $1.26 in March 2023. This acquisition led to the formation of HSBC Innovation Banking UK, which is dedicated to supporting technology and life sciences businesses through a range of services, including asset management, investment banking, and private banking.
Earlier in the year, HSBC Innovation Banking UK provided a $42 million debt financing facility to Danish fintech company Pleo, a B2B spend management firm, with the goal of helping the company increase its credit capacity.
Turner joins HSBC Innovation Banking UK with a 13-year background at Citi, where she led business development initiatives and oversaw Citi’s Global Institutional Strategic Investing group. During her career at Citi, she also held the role of Vice President of Citi Markets, gaining extensive experience in business development and strategic investing.
