Charles Norfleet

Charles Norfleet Jr. is a distinguished Wealth Manager and Financial Advisor. Born and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut, Charles excelled in academics and athletics, captaining his high school’s squash and tennis teams and later being recruited for squash at George Washington University, where he graduated with a Bachelor in Economics. His commitment to excellence continued with his achievement of a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification in 2021, a testament to his expertise and dedication to financial planning.

Charles Norfleet‘s career is marked not only by his professional achievements but also by a deep commitment to community service. He has participated in rebuilding efforts post-Hurricane Katrina and mission trips to Jamaica, reflecting his strong belief in giving back. His passions extend to golf, tennis, squash, and skiing, maintaining a balance that supports his mental and physical health.

With a career built on the principles of empathy, rationality, and patience, Charles is dedicated to helping his clients achieve financial freedom while honoring the legacy of his late father, who continues to inspire his personal and professional life.

What inspired you to pursue a career in financial planning?

Growing up, I always enjoyed learning about how the American economy operated, and how people could make their way in it.  This led me to pursue a degree in economics from George Washington University.  On top of this innate curiosity for how our economy/markets worked, I wanted to get into a career where regardless of what I was doing, I was helping people.  I saw financial planning as a way to marry my love for economics, with my desire to help people achieve their goals.

How have your experiences in sports influenced your professional approach?

Sports taught me the value of discipline, teamwork, and strategic thinking. As the captain of my high school tennis and squash teams, I learned leadership skills that have been invaluable in my career. These experiences have helped me approach each client’s financial goals with a winning strategy that’s both disciplined and collaborative.

Can you share a bit about what the Certified Financial Planner certification involved and why it was important for your career?

The CFP certification is quite rigorous; it involves extensive coursework and an exam that covers various aspects of financial planning. For me, achieving this certification was not just about gaining knowledge but also about establishing credibility with my clients. It represents a commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and competence in financial planning.

What motivates you to participate in philanthropic activities?

My motivation comes from a deep-seated belief in giving back to the community. Whether it was rebuilding homes after Hurricane Katrina or helping on mission trips in Jamaica, these experiences remind me of the impact we can have on others’ lives. It’s about making a tangible difference, and there is no greater honor than that.

How do you balance your professional life with your hobbies and personal interests?

Balancing a demanding career with personal interests can be challenging, but I make it a priority to schedule time for activities that I enjoy, like golf and skiing. These activities are not just hobbies but also a way to maintain my mental and physical health, which is crucial for sustained professional performance.

After your father’s passing, how did you find the strength to continue pursuing your professional goals?

Losing my father was devastating, but I knew he would have wanted me to continue striving toward my goals. Preparing for and passing the CFP exam shortly after his passing was a way to honor his memory. I believe he’s still guiding me, and that gives me the strength to keep moving forward.

What qualities do you believe are essential for success in wealth management?

Empathy, rationality, and patience are crucial. Empathy helps me connect with clients and understand their life stories and financial dreams. Rationality ensures that I provide sound financial advice, and patience is necessary because wealth management is about long-term strategy and results.

How do you stay current with economic trends and financial innovations?

I’m an avid reader and make it a point to stay updated with the latest economic trends and market movements. This continuous learning helps me stay up to date with the most current and effective financial strategies.

Looking forward, what are some goals you’ve set for yourself both professionally and personally?

Professionally, I aim to expand my advisory group and help more people achieve financial independence. Personally, I am focusing on continuing to improve my own well-being and maintaining a healthy work-life balance, which I believe is key to lifelong success and happiness.
