Kevin Seawright: Empowering Urban Communities Through Homeownership and Strong Community Ties

Kevin Seawright

In the heart of Baltimore, a quiet revolution is taking place. This movement aims to transform urban neighborhoods by promoting homeownership and fostering a strong sense of community, led by Kevin Seawright, the CEO of RPS Solutions and Chairman of the Park Heights Renaissance. With a passion for empowering individuals and families, Seawright is on a mission to build generational wealth and create thriving communities.

“At RPS, home ownership was just very important,” Seawright said in a recent interview. “Having individuals build generational wealth, home ownership is the first step. It was very important.”

Seawright’s journey into real estate development began with a simple yet powerful idea. Everyone deserves the opportunity to own a home they can be proud of. Growing up in a Philadelphia row house, he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by many in inner-city communities. In 2015, he established RPS Solutions to provide first-time homebuyers with newly renovated homes that rival those featured on popular home improvement shows.

“Our goal was that first-time home buyers get exactly what they see on TV,” Seawright explained. “A lot of times in our community we were taught to just buy a home. It wasn’t remodel, it wasn’t anything. It was just to achieve home ownership as just get it. I don’t want to say that it’s nothing wrong with that or that that’s wrong, but at the same time, everybody was watching the TV shows and seeing all these new houses, but a lot of those weren’t hitting our communities.”

Seawright emphasizes the far-reaching impact of homeownership on the economy. “People don’t understand how important home ownership is to our economy,” he said. How many people buy dictates Home Depots and housing  markets. All that data dictates when people are buying what’s actually built in that community.”

By increasing homeownership rates, Seawright believes that urban neighborhoods can attract businesses and amenities that contribute to their vitality and growth. Moreover, owning a home allows individuals to build equity and pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. “You own your home, you acheive equity,” Seawright explained.

Beyond the economic benefits, Seawright stresses the importance of strong community ties in urban development. “I think supporting one another. For me, that’s the biggest piece,” he said when asked about his definition of community. However, he expresses concern over the waning sense of community in many urban areas. “That sense of partnership is a struggle nationwide. I try not to look just at Baltimore.  I travel  all the time. So I see a lot in my travels. And that sense of community is waning.”

To address these challenges, Seawright and his team at RPS Solutions LLC, are spearheading revitalization efforts in Baltimore’s neighborhood. By constructing multi-family units, promoting homeownership, and participating in redevelopment projects, they aim to transform the area and improve the quality of life for its residents.

“We’re doing a huge revitalization in Park Heights,” Seawright shared. “We have built multi-family units. We have also done home ownership on Loyola Northway. We continue to move throughout Park Heights and surrounding neighborhoods in west Baltimore.

Seawright’s commitment to empowering communities extends beyond his professional endeavors. He actively invests in the younger generation, attending his family members’ sporting events and dance competitions, and strives to be a positive role model. “Just trying to be supportive of the youth to come behind you so they understand that this hard work is not for naught,” he said.

In a world where individual achievements often measure success, Kevin Seawright reminds us of the power of community and the importance of lifting others as we climb. Through tireless efforts to promote homeownership and strengthen community bonds, he is paving the way for a brighter future in Baltimore and beyond.
