Trust Wars: Amazon Leads While Elon Musk and TikTok Lag – Survey of 1,000 Americans Reveals Surprising Insights

The global influence of major tech companies has become pervasive, often accompanied by controversies involving data privacy breaches and environmental harm. Despite these issues, it’s important not to paint all companies with the same brush. A survey by All About Cookies, which involved 1,000 US adults, sought to capture public sentiment toward America’s top 10 tech firms and compare it with their views on the US government.

The survey revealed that the US government is the least trusted entity among respondents, while TikTok ranks as the most distrusted tech company. Amazon emerged as the most trusted company, earning the confidence of 70% of participants, followed closely by Google at 65% and Netflix at 64%. Despite varying degrees of trust in different companies, the US government remained at the bottom, with only 28% of respondents expressing trust.

Regarding tech CEOs, Elon Musk was the most disliked, with 42% of respondents expressing negative opinions about him. In contrast, Sundar Pichai of Google was the least disliked CEO, with only 18% expressing disfavor. Musk’s companies, X (formerly Twitter) and Tesla, also ranked low in trust, alongside Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta.

When it comes to data security, Amazon was perceived as the safest, with 59% trusting it with personal data and 54% with financial data. Conversely, Meta, Tesla, X, and TikTok were the most distrusted for both personal and financial data, with TikTok leading the distrust rankings at 68%.

The survey also explored perceptions of customer care among tech companies. Amazon was seen as genuinely caring about its customers by 54% of respondents, followed by Google (50%), Microsoft (48%), and Apple (47%). On the flip side, Tesla (41%), X (53%), and TikTok (51%) were viewed as least caring. Comparatively, only 29% of respondents felt that the US government cares about its citizens, while 44% believed it does not. These insights highlight the complex landscape of trust and distrust among American adults in major tech companies and the government.
