Chagee Appoints Lawrence Wen as New CEO for Singapore

Tea brand Chagee has appointed Lawrence Wen as its new Chief Executive Officer in Singapore, according to a LinkedIn post by Wen. “With more than 5,000 stores globally, I am excited to reintroduce Chagee’s modern tea beverages to Singapore with a new retail design,” Wen announced.

Expansion Plans and New Outlets

Wen also revealed plans to open three new Chagee outlets in Orchard Gateway, Plaza Singapura, and Raffles City in August, with additional locations to follow. This expansion is part of Chagee’s strategy to enhance its presence in Singapore and offer a contemporary tea experience.

Extensive Experience in Customer Experience and Growth

Wen brings over 17 years of customer experience and growth across multiple renowned brands, including foodpanda, Grab, and Pizza Hut.

Foodpanda: Wen’s most recent role was at Foodpanda, where he joined as Managing Director in 2022 before being promoted to CEO later that year. He led a two-year turnaround plan for a USD$250 million revenue business, achieving positive cash flow within 18 months and growing market share.

Grab: Prior to foodpanda, Wen worked at Grab in Indonesia for three years, starting in 2019 as the Regional Head of Strategic Planning for GrabKitchen, Indonesia. He was promoted to Director of GrabFood and GrabKitchen Indonesia in 2021, where he developed and executed a 12-month plan that significantly increased market share in food delivery across Indonesian cities.

Pizza Hut: Wen also held the position of Head of Strategic Planning at Pizza Hut in Sydney. There, he developed and implemented a comprehensive brand and business turnaround plan, enhancing Pizza Hut Australia’s strategic plan, operations, and digital and technology capabilities.

Wen’s appointment is expected to bring a wealth of expertise to Chagee as the brand aims to expand its footprint and innovate in the tea beverage market in Singapore.
