United Risk Global Welcomes Finance Veteran Jay Cahill to Serve as CFO
United Risk Global, a leading international property and casualty insurance underwriting and distribution platform and division of Applied Underwriters, has appointed Jay Cahill as its Chief Financial Officer, effective May 1, 2024. With over 25 years of experience in reinsurance and finance, Cahill brings a wealth of expertise to United Risk Global. His background includes roles in banking, private equity, venture investing, and reinsurance, spanning risk analysis, underwriting, and investment management.
The announcement was made by Dan Malloy, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, who underscored the company’s rapid growth within its market sectors and the need for an experienced financial leader like Cahill. Malloy praised Cahill’s extensive track record and relevant accomplishments, noting his widespread recognition and admiration within the industry.
Prior to joining United Risk Global, Cahill served as Managing Director at Awbury, where he led initiatives in ceded reinsurance, third-party capital, specialty lines, and new business development. Before his tenure at Awbury, Cahill held senior positions at Renaissance Reinsurance Ltd (RenRe), including Senior Vice President of Underwriting and Global Head of Credit and Financial Lines.
Earlier in his career, Cahill gained valuable experience in private equity and investment banking at prominent firms such as TA Associates, UBS Warburg Dillon Read, and Barclays Global Investors (now BlackRock).
In his new role, Cahill expressed his enthusiasm for joining United Risk Global and highlighted the company’s entrepreneurial spirit, market expertise, and talented staff. He emphasized the firm’s unique approach of offering team members meaningful participation in transactions and sharing in the outcomes, which has driven impressive business growth, particularly in the specialty reinsurance assumed portfolio.
