SWISS CFO Markus Binkert Departs After 19 Years

Markus Binkert, the Chief Financial Officer of Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), will be bidding farewell to the airline after a tenure of over 19 years. Binkert is set to embark on a new journey as the CEO of SV Group, a prominent player in the gastronomy and hotel management sectors. His departure from SWISS is slated for the end of May, with the quest for his successor already underway.

Binkert’s dedication to upholding Swiss values and promoting Swiss quality during his tenure, particularly during his role as Chief Commercial Officer, earned him accolades from Vranckx. His influence extended to various aspects of SWISS, leaving an indelible mark on the airline’s branding, product development, and overall commercial success.

Binkert’s journey at SWISS began in 2005 when he joined as Head of Global Key Accounts & Business Sales Switzerland, eventually progressing to hold key positions in Product, Marketing, and Distribution. His tenure culminated in his appointment to the SWISS Management Board as Chief Commercial Officer in 2013, where he spearheaded initiatives that reshaped the airline’s identity and offerings.

During his time with the Lufthansa Group, Binkert assumed additional responsibilities, including overseeing Pricing, Revenue Management, and Distribution. His return to SWISS in 2020 as Chief Financial Officer saw him take charge of not only financial matters but also human resources, legal affairs, IT, and the Swiss WorldCargo division.

SWISS CEO Dieter Vranckx expressed gratitude towards Binkert, acknowledging his significant contributions to the company’s success throughout his tenure. Vranckx highlighted Binkert’s pivotal role in steering SWISS through various challenges, including the recent pandemic years, and credited him for the firm financial footing the airline currently enjoys.
