Slush Appoints Aino Bergius as its new CEO

Slush, the innovative startup gathering that attracts a crowd of over 13,000 enthusiasts to Helsinki, has appointed Aino Bergius as its new CEO. Bergius takes the reins from Eerika Savolainen, who led the organization for a two-year term.

In her capacity, Bergius will be at the helm of an organization comprising 1,600 volunteers and 50 full-time team members. With a decade-long involvement with Slush, starting as a volunteer in 2014, Bergius aims to position Slush as the premier platform for early-stage founders.

Assuming her role amid challenges in the European startup landscape, Bergius recognizes the region’s struggle with a decline in funding, reflecting a global trend of reduced private tech investment not only in Europe but also in the US and China.

Bergius emphasizes the crucial role of Slush during tough economic times. Acknowledging the economic challenges, Bergius highlights the importance of attracting increased capital funds for European tech. Slush aims to set a new record in 2024 with the largest gathering of venture capital globally, making Helsinki the focal point for an unprecedented number of investors.

Bergius emphasizes that LPs directly influence the availability of venture capital, a pivotal bottleneck in the growth journey of startups.

In 2024, Slush will expand its global presence by supporting around 20 teams to organize local Slush’D events for startups. These events are slated for various cities worldwide, including Kuala Lumpur, Mandal, Windhoek, Aarhus, Busan, Tunis, Bangalore, Bolzano, Heilbronn, and New Delhi.

Slush 2024 is scheduled to take place from November 20 to 21 at Messukeskus in Helsinki, Finland. The event anticipates hosting over 13,000 attendees, including 5,500 startup entrepreneurs, 3,300 investors, and more. Bergius, as the new CEO, will have support from Elin Dölker, the President overseeing core audiences and people operations.
