Puck Welcomes Sarah Personette to Serve as CEO
Following her departure as Twitter’s Head of Ad Sales after Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform in late 2022, Sarah Personette has taken on the role of CEO at the digital news startup Puck. Commencing her position on January 7, Personette fills the void left since the departure of Puck’s co-founder, Joe Purzycki, in May 2023. Personette will not only assume the role of CEO at Puck but also join its board, working alongside co-founder and editor-in-chief Jon Kelly.
Established in 2021, Puck specializes in covering the discussions at the intersection of Wall Street, Washington, Silicon Valley, Hollywood, media, and fashion.
Sarah Personette previously served as Twitter’s Chief Customer Officer, resigning shortly after Musk’s $44 billion acquisition. Her career includes roles such as a brief stint as COO at Refinery29, following her tenure as Facebook’s VP of global business marketing from 2014 to 2017. Earlier experiences encompassed roles as the U.S. President of Universal McCann Worldwide and Senior VP at Starcom Mediavest Group.
Sarah Personette holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and international relations from Northwestern University.
At Puck, Personette’s responsibilities will involve spearheading expansion into new markets like fashion and sports business while enhancing the company’s portfolio of live events, editorial franchises, and intellectual property. Liz Gough, Puck’s co-founder and COO, will remain in charge of the advertising business, collaborating with Personette on the company’s expansion strategies.
Puck, having secured $20 million in funding from key investors like TPG, Standard Investments, and J. Rothschild Capital Management, recently reported $10 million in revenue for 2023 with around 40,000 newsletter subscriptions. Journalists, including Matthew Belloni, Julia Ioffe, Dylan Byers, William D. Cohan, and Baratunde Thurston, are among Puck’s founding partners.
