Lars Stensgaard Mørch Suceeds Anders Dam at Jyske Bank – Per Skovhus to Retire in 2024
After an impressive career spanning nearly 34 years with Jyske Bank, including 28 years on the Group Executive Board, Anders Dam has decided to retire, with his retirement date set for October 31, 2023.
As of November 1, 2023, Jyske Bank’s Supervisory Board has appointed Lars Stensgaard Mørch as the new CEO and Managing Director. Lars Stensgaard Mørch has received approval from the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority to serve as CEO and Managing Director of Jyske Bank.
Furthermore, Managing Director Per Skovhus has announced his intention to retire in the first half of 2024.
The Supervisory Board has initiated a succession process to identify Per Skovhus’ replacement on the Group Executive Board, with a focus on a profile as Group Chief Risk Officer responsible for financial and non-financial risks within the Jyske Bank Group.
Anders Dam’s journey with Jyske Bank began on October 1, 1987, when he joined as Chief Economist. In 1989, he became Assistant Managing Director, responsible for the bank’s development and planning division. While he briefly left the bank in 1992 to become Managing Director of Stibo Datagrafik, he returned in mid-1995 as a member of the Jyske Bank Group Executive Board, with the aim of succeeding Kaj Steenkjær as CEO and Managing Director in 1997.
Lars Stensgaard Mørch, aged 51, was employed by Jyske Bank as Director responsible for business strategy on August 1, 2021. Previously, he had a long career at Danske Bank, where for the 12 years leading up to 2018, he was a member of the Group’s senior management, the Executive Committee, and the Group Executive Board, respectively. Lars Stensgaard Mørch has also served on the boards of several financial services companies and chaired the boards of Realkredit Danmark A/S and Nordania Leasing A/S.
Per Skovhus, aged 64, has been a member of Jyske Bank’s Group Executive Board since September 1, 2013, with executive responsibility for Credits and Corporate Clients throughout his tenure. Prior to this, he spent six months as a member of Jyske Bank’s Group Supervisory Board, drawing on his extensive career at Danske Bank. In 2012, as part of a succession plan, Per Skovhus chose to conclude his employment with Danske Bank after serving six years on its Group Executive Board.
Kurt Bligaard Pedersen, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, praised Anders Dam, saying, “It is a unique professional career that is now nearing its end. Anders Dam has been CEO and Managing Director for more than 26 years and a member of the Group Executive Board for half of Jyske Bank’s lifetime. He will leave a significant imprint on the entire financial sector and on Jyske Bank, which during his reign grew substantially and is today the second largest Danish financial institution.”
Regarding Lars Stensgaard Mørch, he commented, “We were very pleased when Lars Stensgaard Mørch was in 2021 attached to Jyske Bank. In a short period of time, he has achieved great results in his work with the bank’s strategy, not least in connection with the takeover of Handelsbanken’s Danish activities. We will benefit greatly from his in-depth knowledge of the financial sector, his understanding of clients, and his strong management and strategic skills.”
