Thériault Peplaces Robert Moreau as CEO of UNI

Camille Thériault has been officially designated as the new CEO of UNI Financial Cooperation following a recent bout of technological disruptions that inconvenienced numerous bank customers during the preceding summer period.

This announcement was made after UNI’s report of Robert Moreau’s “immediate departure,” which was disclosed a day earlier. Moreau was at the helm during UNI’s initial encounter with technical issues in early July, shortly after the bank’s separation from Desjardins Group to establish its independent online banking platform.

Around 155,000 customers were slated to migrate to the new platform on July 6. However, glitches in the transition process resulted in widespread problems for customers throughout the region. Instances included card malfunctions and an inability to access online accounts.

Certain customers even encountered discrepancies with their most recent pay, referred to by UNI as a “payroll deferral.” During this period, Moreau assured frustrated customers that the bank was actively working to expedite improvements. Nonetheless, it took UNI over a fortnight to enable ATM bill payments for its clients.

Thériault, who led the credit union for 12 years, returns to UNI after a six-year interval. According to Pierre-Marcel Desjardins, the chair of the board of directors, Thériault’s previous 12-year leadership of the credit union makes him “ideally suited” to oversee the ongoing transition. Thériault has pledged a collaborative approach with UNI employees to enhance the online banking system for their dedicated clients over the long term.
