Want to study in Turkey? Check out these 5 Universities

Turkish Higher Education is a lot similar to the Bologna system of the European Union as a result of which the standards of education expected to be maintained are quite good. Students who are aiming to pursue foreign higher education are recommended that they consider a few universities in Turkey, which have received much acclaim from the international community.

Researching good universities in any country could be a tedious task. There is so much to look into that you may want to have a head-start. In this article, you shall find one which can help you understand Turkish Higher Education. I have listed 5 top universities in Turkey which every international applicant should consider.

  1. Middle East Technical University (METU).
It is not easy to make your way to the Middle East Technical University (METU). Its acceptance rate is exceptionally low—and this is not surprising. METU is a popular public technical university that was established in the year 1956. Focussing primarily on natural sciences and engineering, the university has attained a reputation for being the best in what it does. Its research output is terrific, and this is reflected in the fact that it receives the largest share of the contribution by the prestigious Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. Presently, there are as many as 42 academic departments that have been distributed among 5 faculties. Besides, there are 5 graduate schools.
  2. Boğaziçi Üniversitesi.
Being the first American Higher Education Institution to have been established beyond the United States of America, Boğaziçi Üniversitesi started as Robert College in the late 19th century. Due to its American origins, its modus operandi so far academic structure and course delivery are concerned has heavy American influences. If you are interested in the field of engineering, applied science, or social science, then this is the right place to apply in Turkey. There are 6 faculties in total including that of Arts and Sciences, Education, Applied Disciplines, Engineering, and Economics. Also, there are graduate institutes in various fields that attract a good number of students every year. An independent center called Instanbul Centre for Mathematical Sciences is also a part of the university.
  3. Koç University.
Based in the historic city of Istanbul, Koç University was established in the year 1993 as a non-profit private university. It comprises several colleges providing courses in myriad fields such as Social Sciences and Humanities, Law, Medicine, and Engineering. Presently, it offers 22 undergraduate programs and 29 postgraduate programs. Students interested in pursuing intensive research programs can enroll in its doctoral programs. It may not be an old institution yet has secured for itself a distinguished place in the academic history of the country. Attracting the most brilliant minds in the country, it has consistently fared well in international rankings. It also collaborates with many universities such as Georgetown University to internationalize its educational process.
  4. Bilkent University.
High academic output has made Bilkent University one of the most successful private universities in the region. It was established in the year 1984 and has a strong inclination towards research work. There are multiple faculties operational in the university including that of Art, Business Administration, Engineering, Law, Science, Music and Performing Arts, and Humanities and Letters. Four schools also function here namely School of Applied Languages, School of Applied Technology and Management, Vocational School of Computer Technology and Office Management, and Vocational School of Tourism and Hotel Services. In order to further research activities, the university manages a string of centers and institutes such as the Centre for Studies in Society and Politics, and the Institute of Music and Performing Arts.
  5. Sabanci University.
Founded in the year 1999, Sabanci University grew into a well-renowned university in a short time. Aiming to impart multidisciplinary wisdom, courses have been tailored to provide a holistic educational environment. It is very common to find an intermingling investigation of natural sciences and social sciences in its courses. The real takeaway from the university, however, should be its intensive research works conducted in its various research centers such as the Sabanci university Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Research and Application Centre (SU IMC) that has received substantial contribution and is geared at closing in the gap between academics and industrial experience.
