World’s Richest Set to Unveil “Scary Smart” AI Model, Grok 3

Elon Musk, the world’s richest person and a central figure in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) race, has announced plans to release what he described as the most advanced AI model yet—Grok 3. In a post on X, the South African-born billionaire hinted that the upcoming model would be the most intelligent AI on the planet.
Speaking via video conference at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk remarked that Grok 3’s intelligence was at times unsettling. He explained that the model, trained on synthetic data, had the ability to analyze and refine its responses by iterating over the data to enhance logical coherence. Reports indicated that the AI was trained using 100,000 Nvidia GPUs, with an estimated value exceeding $4 billion, suggesting a significant leap in computing power.
Several weeks earlier, multiple X users, including reverse engineer Alexey Shabanov, claimed to have accessed Grok 3—the successor to xAI’s existing model, Grok 2—through X’s chatbot software. According to reports from TechCrunch, these users managed to interact with the model, posing various questions related to coding and logical reasoning before their access was eventually revoked.
The release of Grok 3 comes amid a long-standing dispute between Musk and Sam Altman over the ownership and direction of OpenAI, one of the most influential AI companies in the world. Their professional relationship deteriorated after Musk departed from the startup in 2018 to establish his own AI venture, xAI. In February 2024, Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its leadership, alleging that the organization had deviated from its original mission. However, he later withdrew the complaint.
As anticipation builds for Grok 3’s official release, the AI landscape is poised for yet another shake-up, with Musk’s latest creation set to redefine the boundaries of artificial intelligence.
