Mark Koziel Appointed as Incoming CEO of AICPA & CIMA

Mark Koziel, CPA, CGMA, has been named the next CEO of AICPA & CIMA, which jointly operate as the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants. His appointment follows a global search for a successor to Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, the longest-serving CEO in AICPA’s history, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Koziel will officially assume his role on January 1, 2025, following a transition period. He is currently president and CEO of Allinial Global, the world’s second-largest accounting association, overseeing 268 member firms across the globe with collective revenues exceeding $6 billion. Koziel is responsible for the strategic planning, financial management, and overall growth of the organization.

Before joining Allinial in 2020, Koziel spent 14 years at AICPA and later at the Association, beginning his career in accounting at a firm in Buffalo, New York. Throughout his career, he has been a strong advocate and leader within the accounting profession. Koziel has been recognized among Accounting Today’s Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting and has appeared on the International Accounting Bulletin’s Global Accounting Power 50 List.

The Association’s Board of Directors worked with Korn Ferry, the largest global executive search firm, to find the new CEO. The board’s selection committee, led by former Association Chair Anoop Mehta, CPA, CGMA, conducted the global search, reviewing and interviewing candidates from across the world.

In a press release, Koziel expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the world’s largest accounting membership body. He looked forward to guiding the profession through its continued evolution, emphasizing the importance of public service and tackling economic, business, and societal challenges. He highlighted his eagerness to work closely with members, candidates, volunteers, and staff to advance the profession.

Barry Melancon, in his own statement, reflected on his 30-year tenure, describing his time serving the profession as an honor. He voiced his confidence in Koziel’s ability to take on the role, praising his passion and vision for both the profession and the organization, and expressed optimism about the future under Koziel’s leadership.
