Spanish Broadcasting System Undergoes Executive Changes; CFO José Molina Departs
Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS) is amidst a significant transitional period, marked by key departures in its executive leadership team. Chief Financial Officer José Molina is the latest executive to leave SBS, following the recent exit of President/COO Albert Rodriguez. Molina’s departure has prompted an active search for his successor, as reported by Radio Ink’s sister publication RBR+TVBR.
In addition to Molina’s departure, President/COO Albert Rodriguez announced his resignation during the Q3 2023 earnings call. Subsequently, SBS Founder and Chairman Raúl Alarcón Jr. has assumed his former role as President, signaling further shifts in the company’s leadership structure.
Molina has had a longstanding association with SBS, initially joining as Director of Finance in 2001 and ascending to roles of increasing responsibility, including Vice President of Finance and Senior Vice President of Finance. After a stint as CFO of MundoMax Broadcasting, Molina returned to SBS as CFO in 2019 after a year at Univision.
During his tenure, Molina oversaw several strategic initiatives, including the proposed sale of Mega TV to Voz Media. Despite challenges related to funding issues, the sale has yet to close, leading SBS to pursue legal action against Voz for breach of contract. Molina also played a pivotal role in SBS’s expansion efforts, including FM acquisitions in Central Florida and endeavors to enter the Houston market through Urban One’s divestment, although progress has been impeded by the Voz Media situation.
