Succession Plan for Publix

Publix Super Markets has announced a transition in its top leadership roles effective January 1. Todd Jones, the current CEO, will assume the position of Publix’s Executive Chairman. Kevin Murphy, currently serving as President, will step into the role of CEO, while John Goff, the Senior Vice President, will take on the responsibilities of President. Ed Crenshaw, Chairman of the Board, will continue as Chairman Emeritus on the Board of Directors.

Jones embarked on his career in 1980 as a front service clerk in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. His journey within the company included various roles. Eventually, he ascended to senior vice president of product business development in 2005, President in 2008, CEO and President in 2016, and CEO in 2019.

Ed Crenshaw, Chairman of the Board at Publix, praised Jones’ leadership, emphasizing his commitment to the company’s success and the advancement of its employees. Crenshaw expressed satisfaction that Jones would continue providing guidance as executive chairman.

Todd Jones, the CEO of Publix, expressed confidence in Murphy and Goff, highlighting their extensive experience and readiness to take on elevated roles within the company. He affirmed his belief in their capabilities to steer Publix forward, ensuring its continual success as a preferred shopping destination for customers and a rewarding workplace for associates.

Murphy’s Publix journey began in 1984 as a front service clerk in Margate, Fla. Over the years, he progressed through various roles, including store manager in 1995, district manager in 2003, regional director in 2009, and vice president of the Miami Division in 2014. Murphy assumed the role of senior vice president of retail operations in 2016 and became President in 2019.

Goff commenced his career in 1991 as a front service clerk in Jacksonville, Fla. His trajectory at Publix involved roles such as store manager in 2005, district manager in 2010, regional director in 2014, and vice president of the Miami Division in 2019. Goff’s elevation to senior vice president of retail operations occurred in 2022.
