Cruise’s Co-founder Dan Kan Resigns Shortly after the Departure of CEO Kyle Vogt
At the start of the week, Dan Kan, Cruise’s chief product officer, and co-founder, resigned from the company, following closely after the resignation of Kyle Vogt, the CEO and another co-founder, which was announced less than a day earlier. Kan himself did not provide any comment.
This series of co-founder departures occurred around six weeks subsequent to a significant accident on October 2 in San Francisco, Cruise’s home city, resulting in a woman being critically injured. During the incident, the pedestrian was struck by a human driver while crossing a San Francisco street and was subsequently propelled into the path of an oncoming autonomous Cruise vehicle, where she was dragged for about 20 feet.
Consequently, on October 24, the California DMV revoked Cruise’s operating permit. Shortly thereafter, the company withdrew all of its autonomous vehicles from operational cities in Arizona and Texas. Prior to these events, Cruise had plans to introduce its fleet in a total of 10 cities, including Nashville and San Diego, by the culmination of 2023.
