CEO Spotlight: Tutor Route Founder Stephanie Tran, a Former Skater and Educator Turned CEO

Prior to founding Tutor Route, including its flagship offering in the 6-Figure Tutor Masterclass, its CEO, Stephanie Tran, was navigating the world and trying to figure it out, like everyone else.

Tran was an international ice figure skater for the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) and Skate Canada. It was shortly after a devastating injury, at the age of 16, that she began to suffer from an identity crisis as she struggled to figure out where her life was heading.

Figuring it out is part of the journey and that includes living up to other’s standards or expectations. Tran, upon arriving in the United states as a child, suffered from chronic self-doubt, which later advanced into imposter syndrome. Her feelings of inadequacy, however, did not deter her from finding success. Her traditional parents maintained the notion that she should opt for a safe and secure profession and not seek out risky business as an entrepreneur. 

Tran began carving out her path at the University of Texas (UT), where she served as a transcriber. She not only won a public speaking competition, but also published an academic journal on how entrepreneurs help guide foreign markets to approve products and overcome adversities of cultural differences and language barriers.

After earning her master’s in education from John Hopkins University (JHU), she created a company of 21 tutors in just two years. The former Houston Independent School District Title I Teacher and Teach For America corps member also secured six-figure deals with local school districts to close the achievement gap by helping students to find their version of success and chase their dreams as well.

The ‘Edupreneur’

Guiding her students, or ‘Tutorpreneurs,’ Tran, otherwise known as the ‘Edupreneur,’ helps them establish his or her own respective tutoring businesses or side hustles. As part of the 6-Figure Tutor Masterclass, the blueprint includes how to build and launch a long-lasting tutoring minimum viable brand (MVB) in 30 days. 

Tran mentored 26 Tutorpreneurs to earn rates from $25-$200 per hour. One of Tran’s masterclass students, Amanda Paez, founder and CEO of Teach Inspire Transform LLC, actually developed a team of three certified teachers closing scholars’ reading gaps through innovative tools and self-confidence practices in Miami, Florida.

In fact, the masterclass culminates with the creation of students’ very own tutoring brands with the guidance of Tran as their mentor.

Among the many numerous topics covered include:

• Understanding what is and creating your MVB.
• How to attract and tailor services to a target market.      
• How to consult confidently and close deals.
• How to manage necessary business administration work comfortably.     
• How to produce content like a boss.

All courses are made available per the Tutor Route app, which consists of 30 lessons, challenges with accompanying workbooks, and weekly live Q&A sessions with Tran. Additionally, students are entered into a highly collaborative network of like-minded Tutorpreneurs with lifetime access.

“My mission is to impact lives and empower teachers to cash in on changing the world,” said Tran. “Teachers are entrepreneurs at heart and run classrooms like they mean business. While teachers are suppliers of knowledge, their salaries don’t typically meet the demands of their lifestyle nor their level of effort and impact.
