Brandon Willett: A Steady Voice in Financial Planning

Brandon Willett

A Strong Start: The Athlete Who Became a Trusted Planner

Brandon Willett didn’t begin his career in a boardroom. His early lessons in leadership were earned on the football field in Monrovia, Indiana, where he played three sports at his local high school. That same drive and discipline carried him to Butler University, where he became a standout athlete on the football team.

“Playing sports taught me how to work with others toward a goal,” Willett says. “Those lessons stuck with me. They show up in how I work with clients today.”

He wasn’t just a player—he was recognized as a Division I-AA All-American. That honor came with high expectations. Willett embraced them with the same work ethic that would later define his career in financial planning.

How Brandon Willett Became a Financial Planning Leader

After graduating in 2002, Willett didn’t immediately enter finance. It wasn’t until 2009 that he started working in the financial services industry.

“I didn’t come from a Wall Street background,” he explains. “That turned out to be a strength. It helped me connect with people in a real, practical way.”

From the start, Willett focused on building relationships. He didn’t just talk numbers—he listened. He asked questions. He learned what mattered most to the people sitting across from him.

“It’s not just about money. It’s about what that money means to them,” he says. “I try to understand that before anything else.”

Over time, this approach helped Willett build trust—and a reputation. Clients began to seek him out for his ability to explain complex topics in plain language. He earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation, a mark of professionalism and ethics in the field.

But for Brandon Willett, titles and certifications were just part of the story.

“I wanted to be someone people could count on. Not just when the market’s good—but always.”

Why Clients Trust Brandon Willett’s Planning Process

Willett’s strength lies in his ability to simplify. He doesn’t rely on buzzwords or industry jargon. Instead, he uses real-life examples, often tied to what his clients are going through.

“Everyone has a unique story. My job is to meet them where they are, not where I want them to be,” he says.

For example, he recalls working with a young family unsure about how to plan for the future.

“They were overwhelmed. I broke things down into steps. We focused on one goal at a time. That’s when things started to make sense for them.”

His process is centered around clarity. He avoids pressure. He makes space for questions. And above all, he prioritizes listening.

“That’s the most important part,” Willett says. “If you don’t listen, you miss what matters.”

The Personal Side: Balancing Fatherhood and Finance

Outside of work, Willett is a proud father of two daughters. His time with them is something he protects fiercely.

“They keep me grounded,” he says. “Being a dad has made me better at what I do. It reminds me what really matters.”

Golf is another outlet for Willett. He plays regularly and is a member of Highland Golf and Country Club. But it’s not just about competition—it’s about connection.

“I enjoy the conversations on the course,” he says. “You learn a lot about people between holes.”

Willett is also an avid reader, using books to continue learning and widening his perspective.

“Reading helps me think differently,” he says. “It’s part of staying sharp—not just for myself, but for the people who rely on me.”

Lessons from the Field: Leadership in Financial Planning

Willett’s leadership isn’t loud or flashy. It’s steady, consistent, and values-driven.

“People don’t need someone to impress them,” he says. “They need someone who shows up.”

That mindset is rooted in his athletic past. Teamwork, accountability, and focus—all traits developed under Friday night lights—still shape how he leads today.

When asked what he sees as the future of financial planning, Willett is clear:

“Personalization is key. Technology is growing, but people still want to talk to someone who understands them. That won’t change.”

He believes success in the industry isn’t just about performance—it’s about trust.

“Numbers matter, of course. But trust is everything. If people trust you, they’ll stick with you through the ups and downs.”

What Sets Brandon Willett Apart

Brandon Willett’s story is one of transition, growth, and purpose. From his roots in Monrovia to his recognition as a leader in financial planning, he has kept the same focus: helping people feel confident about their future.

“I don’t pretend to have all the answers,” he says. “But I do work hard to help people find theirs.”

In a fast-changing industry, Willett stands out for his steady hand, clear voice, and commitment to doing the right thing—even when no one’s watching.
