Bill Erbey’s pursuit of smarter systems

William “Bill” Erbey

For over fifty years, William “Bill” Erbey has carved a reputation for turning complex challenges into practical, scalable solutions. From systemic inefficiencies in mortgage servicing to prioritizing utility in crypto payments and digital infrastructure, Erbey has consistently applied a rigorous, data-driven and statistical-analysis approach to innovation, which has translated into lasting impact across finance, real estate, healthcare and emerging technologies.

Erbey’s academic background, with an economics degree from Allegheny College followed by an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School, laid the groundwork for a career grounded in quantitative thinking. His early roles at GE Capital and GE Mortgage Insurance gave him front-line experience in financial systems, exposing inefficiencies that would later shape his entrepreneurial mindset.

In 1987, Erbey co-founded Ocwen Financial Corporation, a firm that would go on to play a critical role during the 2008 financial crisis. While other institutions sought to offload non-performing loans, under Erbey’s leadership, Ocwen became the largest servicer of distressed loans in the U.S., using advanced statistical models to modify mortgages rather than foreclose on them. The result was a scalable solution that helped hundreds of thousands of families stay in their homes, and laid the foundation for the federal government’s Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP), where Ocwen led 40% of all national modifications.

After stepping down from Ocwen in 2014, Erbey launched a new phase of his career, this time focused on emerging technologies. He founded and now leads six companies, all designed to solve real-world inefficiencies with a blend of proprietary technology, analytics and systems thinking:

  • ForumPay, the first crypto payment platform to offer in-app integration and recurring billing, connects merchants and crypto consumers in a frictionless digital payments environment.
  • System73, a network optimization platform that improves video quality and end users’ experience by up to 94%, reducing bandwidth costs and reliance on inefficient legacy infrastructures.
  • Roivos, a clinical-stage company developing JuxtaFlow® RAD, a breakthrough renal support device for patients facing acute kidney injury.
  • Alpha Controls, which enhances energy efficiency in EVs using real-time predictive analytics to dynamically manage powertrain behavior.
  • ProperT Rewards Token, the first crypto rewards token to launch a token-back program. Users earn 5% back on purchases, with seamless integration into the newly launched ProperT Gift Card platform.

Each venture embodies Erbey’s core principles, including recognizing inefficiencies, applying mathematical rigor and developing scalable solutions that produce measurable results.

In parallel, Erbey is actively engaged with the broader public. His YouTube channel, LinkedIn, and Instagram profiles serve as platforms for open dialogue on entrepreneurship, risk, economics, and even literature, offering access to the mindset behind the ventures.

Erbey’s work-life balance is, by his own admission, tilted heavily towards the former. But through his love for the work and an innate passion for innovation, he continues to lead his portfolio of ventures, focused on meaningfully improving how industries operate and how people live.
